Slipped stitch pattern in two colors.

This is the first tutorial in a series that I intend to do with slip stitch patterns.

So I will start with a very simple slip stitch pattern that creates a weave with texture and stretch at the same time. However, there are many slip stitch patterns that create different textures. Stay tuned for the next tutorials.

Stitches used

Just as an example, in this first tutorial I worked with only two colors and the only stitches used were the basic knitting stitches; the knit stitch (K) and the purl stitch (P).

Execution

Basically, it is a repetition of four rounds, the first two with the color you chose for the highlight and the last two with the contrast color. Note that this example is for circular work. In a future tutorial I will show you how to do this when working in back and front (flat knitting).

Step-by-step

Finally, we come to the step by step. Just follow the pictures below, with description in English and Portuguese, and at the end of the article there is the link to the video showing the execution. Remember that my knitting style is always Portuguese.

In this example the dark color (blue) is the highlight color and the light color (white) is the contrast color. Working with contrasting colors you can play around by inverting the predominance of the colors. Note that the piece is composed of two parts, one with the predominant light color and the other with the dark color.
Start by casting an even number of stitches with the main color, dark (blue) in the example, and then join in the round.
The repetition of 4 rounds creates the pattern. In the first round, the working color is the contrast color (note the yarn running through the finger of the right hand).
So: Round 1 (with color A): K1, slip 1 as purl but with the yarn in back. Repeat across round.
From the second repetition of 4 rounds it is already possible to observe that alternating columns are formed, one with all the stitches in blue (the main color) and another column with stitches of alternating colors.
When you have completed the first block of 4 rounds it will be easy to know which stitch to slip and which stitch to knit.
If the column has both colors, the stitch is knitted.
At the end of round 1, the stitches on the needle will be in alternating colors.
Round 2 (still working with color A): K all the stitches in color A,
and slip (yarn behind) all the stitches of color B. Repeat all the way around.
Round 3 (now working with color B): k all the stitches.
Round 4 (continue with color B): repeat round 3
Repeat these 4 rounds to the desired length.
